Over a period of time bait was laid down, but this bait was different. It was ‘the real thing’. Chopped vegetables were placed in the areas where there were signs of the vermin. A few days later the areas were checked to see that the ‘bait’ had been taken. Then more ‘good stuff’ was laid.
What did the vermin think? That’s rhetorical because I do not purport to know if rodents can think. But if they could think… it might be that here was a great source of food without the effort of looking for it.
Then the poisoned bait went down.
It made me think of the way Satan draws us astray.
As it says in Ecclesiates 1: 9, “There is nothing new under the sun’… and neither there is. A New Testament example is in the short letter from the Apostle Jude.
Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.
Jude 3 (New International Version)
So what is the ‘faith once delivered’ and have we strayed from it?
How can we know? Are we eating the ‘bait’ only to be fed the poison when we are lulled into security? And what degree of poison? Is it obvious or subtle? My vote goes for subtle. Error is a slow poison, but poison nonetheless.
The Bible is my reference book… and one that was well studied and researched into for Hold the Faith (the novel). The apostles first had the faith once delivered. Christ opened their eyes to the truth, and they learned from the scriptures, and in turn, taught from them.
The New Testament had not yet been written. What were the scriptures used by Jesus Christ?
Hmm. It could only have been what we call the Old Testament.
But many people teach that the Old Testament has been ‘done away’.
So what then does this mean?
Then Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
Luke 24:27 (New Living Translation)
Perhaps saying the Old Testament is done away is part of Satan’s subtle poisoned bait.
